Magnolia Officinalis Extract

The primary active components found in traditional Chinese medicine Magnolia are magnolol and honokiol. These ingredients have been utilized for their various pharmacological effects, which include antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, muscle relaxation, cholesterol reduction, and anti-aging properties. The discovery of magnolol dates back to 1930 when Sugiyra of Japan isolated it from the bark of Chinese magnolia. It was later revealed that this compound is also present in Japanese magnolia, although in lower quantities. In 1973, Fujita successfully extracted magnolol, its isomers, and honokiol from both Japanese Magnolia and Magnolia species.
